Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do you accept insurance?

Sarah Polk Nutrition currently accepts Aetna insurance. All other insurance plans are considered out of network.

If you have a different insurance provider, you're welcome to contact them to ask about coverage for nutrition services. Here are a few tips to help guide that conversation:

  • Ask whether your plan covers telehealth nutrition counseling. The billing code for telehealth is 98968.

  • Ask how many visits your plan covers under Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) or nutrition counseling. Some plans differentiate between visits for a medical diagnosis and those for preventative care, so it’s a good idea to ask about both.

  • The billing code for nutrition counseling is 97802.

2. What is bariatric surgery?

Bariatric surgery refers to a variety of surgical procedures that help with weight loss by making changes to the digestive system. Common types include gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy.

If you've had or are considering bariatric surgery, working with a registered dietitian is essential before and after surgery to ensure proper nutrition, manage side effects, and support long-term success.

3. What are GLP-1 medications?

GLP-1 medications, such as Ozempic, Wegovy, Zepbound, and Mounjaro, are a class of drugs used to help manage obesity and/or type 2 diabetes. They work by mimicking a hormone called GLP-1, which helps regulate blood sugar, reduce appetite, and promote a feeling of fullness—making them effective tools for weight management as well.

If you're taking or considering a GLP-1 medication, working with a dietitian can help you manage any side effects, support healthy weight loss, and ensure you're getting the right nutrients while your appetite and eating habits shift.

4. What is Nutrigenomics?

Nutrigenomics is the study of how your genes interact with the foods you eat. It looks at how your unique genetic makeup can affect things like how you metabolize nutrients, your risk for certain health conditions, and how your body responds to different types of diets.

By using genetic insights, we can create a more personalized nutrition plan that supports your overall health and helps you reach your goals more effectively. It’s a fascinating and emerging area of nutrition that adds another layer to understanding what works best for you.

5. Do you provide meal plans?

Yes! A 3-day meal plan is included with your initial nutrition consultation. However, meal plans alone aren’t a long-term solution. Together in our sessions, we’ll work on building a sustainable, flexible way of eating that works for you and fits your lifestyle.

6. Why should I work with you when I can find the information myself?

There’s so much nutrition information out there—it can be overwhelming and often conflicting. As a registered dietitian, I help you cut through the noise and provide personalized, evidence-based recommendations tailored to your goals and needs.

Yes, you can look things up on your own, but Google can’t replace one-on-one guidance, accountability, and support. I’ll be your partner and cheerleader on your health journey.

7. What types of payments do you accept?

I accept debit cards, credit cards, HSA cards, and the CareCredit® credit card.

8. Where is your office located?

I provide virtual services, allowing you to meet with me from the comfort of your own home. I offer HIPAA-compliant telehealth services to clients across the U.S. In-person sessions are available two days per week at my office, located on the Mercy South Hospital campus in Saint Louis, Missouri.
